About the Teacher

Tara Narain

Tara Narain, a Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 and YACEP certified teacher, is a dedicated Ashtanga practitioner with a rich heritage in yoga. Introduced to yoga's various branches early in life, she embraced mantra chanting, meditation, pranayama, and Vedic Sanskrit texts. At 39, she began her physical yoga journey with Bikram yoga before finding her true calling in Ashtanga yoga.

Tara trained with renowned Ashtanga teachers like Petri Räisänen and Laruga Glaser and continues her studies with Sharath Jois, the grandson of Ashtanga Yoga founder Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. She completed intensive teacher training in Rishikesh with Yogi Kamal Singh and pranayama training with Sunil Sharma.

Passionate about Mysore traditions, Tara founded Mysore yoga communities in Arnhem and Bonaire and is currently based in Goa. She combines traditional practices with modern insights, offering transformative teachings that are accessible to all. Tara's deep knowledge and commitment make her a revered teacher in the Ashtanga community.

  • For Practitioners: If you have practiced Mysore style and experienced its profound benefits, this retreat offers a deeper dive into your Ashtanga sadhana in a serene beachside destination.

Course Content:

  • Early Morning Mysore Self-Practice: Develop or continue a traditional 6-day-a-week Mysore practice, adapting it to various stages and life circumstances. Tara will support you in the shala during morning sessions.
  • History and Lineage of Ashtanga: Understand the evolution of the Ashtanga method and its various branches.
  • Mysore Teaching Methodology: Learn to create and cue adapted led classes, use your voice effectively, and hold space for students in group lessons and individual sessions.
  • Asana Adjustment and Alignment: Master safe adjustments for key asanas of the primary series and common modifications with and without props.
  • Sanskrit: Learn Ashtanga asana names, Vinyasa counting, and chanting in Sanskrit.
  • Yoga Philosophy: Reflect on how yoga philosophy relates to your practice and life through daily journaling.
  • Pranayama & Meditation: Focus on connecting ujjayi breathing or free breathing to the vinyasas, and implement a daily pranayama and meditation routine.
  • Practice Teaching: Observe, assist, and practice teaching/adjusting in the shala as part of your 60-hour module.
  • Extra-Curricular Activities: Enjoy ample time to process experiences, relax, and explore Goa's offerings, including Kirtans, ecstatic dances, hippy shopping, and lazy beach days.

Certification:
Upon completion, receive a 60-hour Yoga Alliance Continuing Education certificate. Add four more 60-hour online modules from Innersea Yoga Academy to complete your 300-hour certification. Choose from modules such as Yogic Philosophy, Meditation, Yoga Anatomy, Yoga Nidra, Yin Yoga, and Raja Yoga.
